QHCA Pig Pickin’ and Annual Meeting
It is time for the QHCA annual meeting. Don't worry, besides electing some new officers and discussing neighborhood issues, a tasty pig will be barbecued! Please mark your calendar and come let your vision for our neighborhood be heard. The event takes place:
Saturday, Saturday, Saturday, June 22, 11:00-2:00 p.m.
BBQ, hash, rice, and lemonade will be provided. Bring a side to share.
Under the bylaws, each year half of the Board positions are up for election. This year, the following positions will be voted on; President, Treasurer, Community Activities, Membership and Security. Each carries a two year term. If you are interested in running but would like information about a position, please check our by-laws, or better yet, contact anyone on the board. Their numbers are listed in the Board of Directors link to the left.
If you are unable to make the meeting, please check here in a few weeks for details concerning voting by proxy.
IMPORTANT COMMUNITY INFORMATION!!!!!!!!
The Hot Mix Asphalt Company has a large facility right across the river from our neighborhood. They work at night, using loud equipment and bright lights that seriously disturb neighbors that live near the river. These residents are very frustrated (as the disturbances interfere with their sleep), and are very worried about possible health concerns, such as water and air pollution affecting our neighborhood. Several neighbors have been writing letters and making phone calls for quite some time trying to get this company to address their concerns, but have not had any success to date.
Finally, DHEC has agreed to hear discussion on this case. It is VERY IMPORTANT that a lot of people show up at this hearing! If the officials only see one or two people in the courtroom, they are very unlikely to do anything about this issue, or ever hear discussion on these issues again. Please mark your calendar to support your neighbor and attend this hearing. The meeting is 6:30-7:30, Thursday, May 2, 2013, in the Peeples Auditorium at DHEC (located at 2600 Bull Street Columbia, SC 29201).
SPECIAL THANKS TO STONE INTERIORS
The QHCA Board gratefully acknowledges the generous contribution given to the QHCA by Stone Interiors. In early April, Duane and Heather Naquin (the owners of Stone Interiors and a QH neighbor), presented the Board with a check for $1,000. The Naquin's donate a percentage of their sales back to the QH community. "It is our way of supporting the many people who have supported us," said Duane. Please be sure to queck out his information in the Sponsors section below, or on the web at www.stoneinteriors.com.
FRONT ENTRANCE PROJECT
Many thanks to the volunteers that helped on the project to update the front entrance to the neighborhood (16 April). The old, out of control junipers were successfully pulled up and carted away, and now the QHCA Garden Club will begin work to make the area pretty. For those who have asked, no QHCA funds were used for this project. All money and time was donated by others.
OTHER UPCOMING EVENTS:
In addition, please reserve October 26 for the QHCA Halloween party, and December 6 for the neighborhood Christmas holiday party. Further details will follow at a later date.
ROAD TO PARK FIXED
With warmer weather fast approaching, you may be considering spending some time with your family in the QHCA park. Well good news!!! The QHCA Board is proud to announce that the road to the park (which begins on Euphrata) has been fixed. Over the years, water runoff had cut into the road, causing deep ruts which made driving the road very difficult. Now, the road has been leveled, making the road passable again for most cars. So the next warm day, please feel free to pack the kiddies into your car and drive down into the park for an enjoyable afternoon!
Updated QHCA Phone Directory is in the Works
By popular demand, the QHCA is hard at work organizing an updated QHCA phone directory for residents. A date for publication has not been set yet, but more information concerning this project will be posted here at a later date.
Street Sign Renovation Project
The Board is aware that a few signs still need to be put up and it is working to make that happen as soon as possible. Still, the project was a huge success and the new look really enhances our neighborhood. A very special “thank you” to everyone who contributed to the street sign project. Each of your donations made a difference.
